The Elk River football team scored first, on an interception, but Coon Rapids dominated from then on, handing the Elks a 41-12 defeat on Friday evening in Coon Rapids .
Cardinal sophomore Antonio Ford led the rout, scoring five touchdowns on runs of one, 51, five, 20, and four yards.
Elk River's Taylor Berger intercepted a pass and returned it 27 yards in the first quarter. His point-after kick was blocked, and the Elks had a short-lived 6-0 lead.
The other Cardinal touchdown was a 29-yard pass from Brandon Flippen to Jerry Norris.
The other Elk touchdown was a 23-yard run by Evan Olson in the third quarter.
This was the first win for Coon Rapids . The Cardinals and Elks are each 4-1.
Elk River will host Champlin Park next Friday.
